Assistant Minister of Commerce Ren Hongbin: Actively Promoting the Third-Party Cooperation on Green and Low Carbon Development between China and Japan

On July 29, 2021, the seminar on promoting the third-party cooperation on green and low carbon development between China and Japan was held in Wuhan, Hubei Province. Assistant Minister of Commerce Ren Hongbin addressed the seminar via video link.

Assistant Minister Ren said that China and Japan are both world major economies and important neighbors of each other. The sound and steady development of China-Japan relations are in the fundamental interest of both sides. With close links between their industrial and supply chains and highly integrated economies, China and Japan enjoy wide-ranging cooperation with broad common interest. The two peoples have assisted and supported each other and worked together to combat COVID-19. The bilateral trade and investment have grown against the trend, showing strong resilience of trade and economic cooperation.

Assistant Minister Ren stressed that this year marks the centennial of the Communist Party of China and the beginning of the 14th five-year plan period. As China actively implements the new development concept and follows the path of green and low-carbon development that prioritizes eco-protection, China faces new opportunities in broadening green and low-carbon cooperation with Japan. China-Japan third-party market cooperation is an effective channel through which both sides and relevant countries carry out green and low-carbon cooperation. It will serve as a bridge to efficiently align the green resources, products and services from China and Japan with the need of host countries as they pursue green development. Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic ties. The two sides should fully implement the important consensus of the two leaders, actively promote cooperation and deliver more benefit to the world.

Japanese ambassador to China Hideo Tarumi said in his video remarks that Japan and China are highly complementary in economy. Enhancing trade and economic cooperation will play a vital role in building a stable and constructive Japan-China relationship based on mutual understanding. Companies of the two countries are actively engaged in cooperation on carbon neutrality, energy saving and environmental protection, and third-party markets. He looked forward that companies could leverage their own strength to deepen cooperation through this seminar, so as to make contribution to the virtuous cycle of world economy and environment.

In 2018, China and Japan signed a memorandum on third-party market cooperation and held the first China-Japan Third Country Market Cooperation Forum. The seminar was co-hosted by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, the Japan External Trade Organization and the Japan-China Economic Association, and supported by the Department of Commerce of Hubei Province. The seminar was attended online and offline by around 250 representatives of government departments, economic groups and enterprises from both countries. The seminar released the Case Collection of Demonstration Projects on China-Japan Third-Party Market Cooperation.
