The first meeting of the China-Uzbekistan Investment Cooperation Working Group successfully held

On the afternoon of July 28, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan (MIFT) jointly held the first virtual meeting of the China-Uzbekistan Investment Cooperation Working Group. Ren Hongbin, Assistant Minister of Commerce, and Voitov Aziz Botirovich, First Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan, attended and addressed the meeting.

Ren Hongbin said that China and Uzbekistan are friendly neighbors and comprehensive strategic partners. In recent years, relations between the two countries have developed healthily, and pragmatic cooperation has been moving forward. China has been Uzbekistan's largest trading partner and major source of foreign capital for five consecutive years. In April this year, President Xi Jinping and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a successful telephone conversation to jointly plan bilateral relations and make important arrangements. In June, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov held a virtual meeting and put forward clear requirements for bilateral economic cooperation and trade. The Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan conscientiously implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, give full play to the mechanism of Investment Cooperation Working Group, deepen cooperation between the two governments, optimize the top-level design, expand business exchanges, build a solid foundation for cooperation, strengthen interactions between government and enterprises, and bring together all parties to turn the good development momentum of China-Uzbekistan cooperation into tangible results, benefiting the business and people of both countries.

Voitov Aziz Botirovich first offered congratulations on the centenary of the Communist Party of China. Uzbekistan highly cherishes the stable cooperative relations of mutual trust with China. The Investment Cooperation Working Group of the China-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee is an important platform for the two sides to exchange views, expand cooperation and enrich the content of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and China. The economic cooperation and trade between Uzbekistan and China is gaining momentum. It is hoped that both sides will continue to uphold the principles of mutual respect, mutual trust and mutual benefit and strengthen investment cooperation. The meeting will discuss important issues of bilateral investment cooperation, and the supporting promotion meeting will also highlight Uzbekistan investment projects. Uzbekistan believes that the two sides will reach a series of consensuses to promote bilateral investment cooperation and continue to benefit the two countries and their peoples.

At the meeting, the two sides had in-depth exchanges and consultations on investment cooperation, investment policies, statistical information and issues of concern to both countries. More than 100 representatives from 43 organizations, including central ministries and commissions, local governments, embassies and consulates, investment promotion agencies, financial institutions, trade associations and chambers of commerce and major enterprises, attended the meeting.

In November 2019, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing an Investment Cooperation Working Group, which was established under the framework of the China-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee as an intergovernmental platform for bilateral investment cooperation.
